Student Problems

Why Many Students Struggle with IGCSE Maths

Students often understand examples in class but lose marks in exams because IGCSE questions require clear steps, strong concepts and correct working methods.

🧮

Weak Algebra Skills

Equations, factorising, rearranging formulas and inequalities become difficult without a strong foundation.

⏱️

Poor Exam Timing

Students spend too much time on difficult questions and rush easy marks near the end of the paper.

📉

Careless Mistakes

Small calculation errors, missing units and poor working can reduce marks even when the idea is correct.

📐

Geometry Confusion

Angles, circle theorems, vectors, transformations and trigonometry need visual, step-by-step explanation.

📝

No Revision Plan

Random practice is not enough. Students need a weekly plan based on weak areas and target grades.

💡

Low Confidence

After low marks, many students avoid Maths. Our tutors rebuild confidence through clear explanations.

FAQs

Questions Parents Ask Before Starting

Everything you need to know about our online IGCSE Maths tutoring before booking your first class.

How do I know if my child needs an IGCSE Maths tutor?
There are a few clear signs. If your child understands topics in class but still loses marks in tests, or struggles with algebra, graphs and geometry, or feels anxious under exam time pressure, structured tutoring can help quickly. A free trial class lets us check their current level and find the exact gaps before you commit to regular sessions.
What is the difference between Cambridge IGCSE Core and Extended Maths?
Core Maths covers foundational topics and is graded C to G. Extended Maths covers everything in Core plus harder algebra, trigonometry and statistics, and is graded A* to E. Most universities and A-Level programmes require Extended. In the first session, our tutor runs a short diagnostic and recommends the right level based on your child's current ability and target grade. We never push Extended if a student is not ready for it.
Do you teach Cambridge IGCSE 0580 and Edexcel IGCSE Maths?
Yes. We support both Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Maths. Each board has a different question style, topic emphasis and mark scheme, so we make sure your child practises the correct past papers and learns the specific methods their examiner expects. Just let us know your child's board when you fill the form and we will match them with the right tutor.
How many sessions per week does my child need?
Most students improve consistently with two sessions per week. This creates steady progress without burnout and allows enough time between lessons to practise independently. Students with upcoming mock exams or final exams often increase to three sessions per week closer to the date. After the trial class, the tutor will recommend the right frequency based on how much time is left before the exam and what needs to be covered.
How does the tutor use past papers in lessons?
Past papers are a central part of every lesson plan. In IGCSE Maths, many marks come from the method and not just the final answer, so we train students to write steps clearly, use correct notation and show working even when using a calculator. Lessons start with topic revision, then move to topic-specific past paper questions, and then to timed full-paper practice as the exam gets closer. Mark schemes are reviewed in detail so students understand exactly how marks are awarded.
My child keeps making careless mistakes. Can tutoring fix this?
Yes, and this is one of the most common issues we work on. Careless mistakes usually come from rushing, skipping steps or not checking work under pressure. Our tutors build an error log for each student, track repeated mistakes across sessions and introduce checking routines alongside timed practice. Most students see a clear reduction in careless mistakes within four to six sessions when they follow the error log consistently.
Is online IGCSE Maths tutoring as effective as in-person?
Yes, and for many students it works even better. Online lessons remove travel time entirely and give students access to specialist tutors regardless of where they live. Sessions use an interactive digital whiteboard where the tutor and student write, solve problems and annotate past papers together in real time. Students across the Middle East, UK, Pakistan and Southeast Asia study with our tutors from home with no disruption to their school schedule.
How will I know my child is making progress?
After every lesson we send a short parent update that covers the topic completed, homework assigned, mistakes corrected and the focus for the next session. We also track syllabus completion so parents can see exactly which areas have been covered and which still need attention. For students preparing for exams, mock paper scores are shared so improvement is visible and measurable throughout the programme.
Can you help with last-minute exam or mock preparation?
Yes. If your child has mocks or final exams coming up soon, we can build an urgent revision plan straight away. The tutor will focus on the highest-value topics, past paper technique and timed practice so your child walks into the exam as prepared as possible. Students who start even four to six weeks before their exam have achieved real grade improvements with focused and structured sessions.
How do we get started and what happens in the free trial?
Fill in the booking form with your child's name, exam board, subject and country. Our team will contact you within 24 hours to confirm a time for the free trial class. In the trial session, the tutor will check your child's current level, spot the weak areas and explain the recommended plan going forward. There is no commitment required at this stage. You decide after the trial whether you would like to continue with regular sessions.
